You will never change your life until you change something you do daily.
This is a quote from John Maxwell that I believe nails the answer to the question “How do we become better?” Every day people are looking to get better. Whether it is trying to get promoted, raise income, or just become a better person. The answer to all these challenges lies right there in the quote.
The key to changing your life is to change something you do daily.
Let me give you an example. I wanted to become a better leader for my company. I wanted to get better, so I had to make a change. I had to change my daily routine. You know what I did? I started getting up early every morning and started reading and writing.
Yep, I would get up every morning and read for 30 minutes and write for 30 minutes. I have to tell you, it was not easy. I have never been a big reader and I definitely am not a writer. But I knew that I wanted to get better at leadership so I had to read the teachings of great leaders and then write down what I learned or it would all be forgotten.
This change has made all the difference in the world. I am truly living the quote you will never change your life until you change something you do daily. By changing my routine, I’ve been able to make big changes in my role as a leader.
I just saw an interview with Katie Ledecky, one of the most decorated Olympic swimmers of all time. When they asked her the secret to her success you know what she said? “I love to train.” Yes, her secret is hard work and training. Her secret is her daily routine. It sounds so simple, yet it is so hard.
Do you want to be better at something? It’s as simple as John Maxwell says. Change something you do daily and watch the success roll in.
Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
