The Right Questions Will Change You Forever

In life and business our instinct is to look for answers to our problems. But the truth is, questions teach us the most. When things aren’t going quite the way you’d like them to it’s often the result of not asking the right questions. The right question at the right time can change the course of a life.

The best things in life are hidden from us. By not asking the tough questions we may never uncover what life has in store for us. Great questions are the key to unlocking possibilities and human development.

In his book, One Question, Ken Coleman writes, “The right questions uncover truths we might not otherwise know. They pull back the curtain on the wizard and give us a more accurate view of reality.”

I’ve found this to be true for myself. Recently I have been challenging myself with some pretty difficult questions. These questions make me face reality and are hard to ask because I’m afraid I won’t get the answer I want, or worse yet, I can't control the answer.

As I continue on the journey of writing my book, what becomes clear is that we need to be asking ourselves these tough questions. For example: What do I need to be doing more of? What do I need to be doing less of? And what do I need to start doing?

The answers to these questions help you establish your leadership brand. These questions around your leadership brand will help you uncover the secrets that are keeping you from being the person and leader you are meant to be.

The best things in life don’t come easily. We are all going to struggle and get knocked down. But turning away from our toughest questions is a sure path to not reaching our true potential. Socrates said it best: “The unexamined life isn’t worth living.”

We don't learn by talking. We only learn things when we ask questions. When you stop looking for the right answer and start by asking ourselves the right questions is when life really gets interesting.

In the coming weeks, we are going to explore some of these questions. Be prepared to dig in!

Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
