The other day I was talking with some friends. They were amazed at the success our company has experienced over the past five years, and the fact that we were named the Best Place to Work in SC in 2017. During the conversation, my friend asked me what I thought were the keys to our success.
It got me thinking. Instinctively, I knew what we were doing, but I had never taken the time to write it down. Just like a goal, if it’s not written down, then it’s just a wish.
So here are Marty’s 5 Keys to Success:
Stayed focused. In today’s world, there are so many options and opportunities. Staying focused and being intentional are critical as you work to obtain your Wildly Important Goal (WIG).
Love your customers and your team members. Love is such a hard word for most people to say in business. If you truly love your customers and your team members, you will be committed to their success. It will form a bond that will take you through the good times and the difficult ones.
Hire great people. As Jim Collins says in Good to Great, getting the right people on the bus is the key to any successful operation. Three words we look for when hiring team members are hungry, humble, and smart (and I don’t mean book smart). It’s also important to not only hire great people, but let them be great.
Live every day with passion and purpose. Simply put, people who have a servant heart and a funloving attitude are a lot more fun to be with and you’ll absolutely get more done with a lot less stress.
Follow the Golden Rule. Treat others as you want to be treated, and it will make all decisions a lot easier to make.
I am optimistic that you’ll find these 5 keys to success helpful, and I am grateful to my friends for challenging me to write this down.
While success is never guaranteed, I am confident if we keep these keys at the forefront of our thinking, we stand a great chance of being a company worthy of our clients and a team that members trust.
Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
